Nelda Haag Obituary

Nelda May Haag age 96 passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on April 29, 2020.  She was born on May 1, 1923 in Lebanon, NE to John C. and Elva (Reeve) Townley.  She attended and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1940. After graduation, Nelda baby sat for many families and then worked at the grocery store for Fran Peterson.

On July 23, 1943, Nelda was united in marriage to Bernard H. Haag in Dakota City, NE prior to him being shipped out overseas in WWII. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2003.  The couple farmed south of Bartley till his death.  Nelda moved to McCook in 2004 and later in 2010 to Cambridge and lived in Heritage Plaza.

Nelda was enjoyed puzzles, reading, Cards, Bingo and playing softball in her younger year. She wa known as a pretty good slugger.  She and Bernard square danced and did extensive traveling to England, Germany France, Switzerland, Mexico and Hawaii. Nelda served on the county election board. She was known throughout the valley for her Cinnamon rolls, potato salad.   Nelda was also instrumental in setting up a scholarship at the Tri Valley Medical System to help interest person pursue a career in health care. Nelda also set up a scholarship at McCook Community College for students with backgrounds in Ag. Her laughter would fill the room as she enjoyed life with family and friends.

She was prec3eded by her parents; brothers: Edward, Leonard, Darrell, Harold and Bennie; sisters: Nadine, Donna, Veda and Iris.

Nelda is survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge on May 4, 2020 from 10:00 AM till 7:00 PM.  Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM.  Due to the Corona Virus and restrictions at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery private graveside burial will take place May 5, 2020.  Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenourfh.com.  In lieu of flowers please leave memorials to the Tri Valley Health System at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary.
