Mildred Farr Obituary

Mildred Jane Farr, age 97, of Kearney, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Kearney.

Mildred was born  to parents, Orva and Josephine (Heitmann) Trosper, on June 30, 1922, on a farm south of Cambridge, Nebraska and grew up the third child of 13 children.  Mildred attended a country school south of Cambridge.  While at home, she helped with child rearing some of her younger siblings in the family as the older children often do in a large family.  After school, she worked in a private home in McCook, Nebraska and later at the Cambridge Hospital where she worked until her marriage to Roy Edward Farr on February 14, 1943.  She was married in Bakersfield, California, where Roy was stationed in the Air Force during World War II.  Their son, Roger, was born in Bakersfield during this time.  They returned home to a farm north of Cambridge in 1946.  Their daughter, Linda, was born in 1949 at McCook.  They farmed in southern Frontier County 15 miles north of Cambridge until 1956 when they moved to a different farm five miles west on Deer Creek.  They farmed there until 1966 when they sold their farm.  They purchased El Rancho Trailer Court in Kearney, owning and managing, until their retirement in January 1988.  They then bought a house on Avenue E in Kearney.  Mildred resided there until January 21, 2015 when she entered independent living at Brookdale Northridge Senior Living in Kearney.  In May of 2019, she moved to St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Kearney.

As a youth, Mildred was known for a daring spirit exemplified by the fact that she tried to ride a cow in addition to horses and mules on the farm.  Mildred was devoted to her family.  She loved nothing more than visiting her family nearly every Sunday at her parent’s farm, where you could nearly always find a gathering of siblings and their families.  She often put everything involving her children and family ahead of her own needs.  She was also a devoted wife and working partner on the farm and later in management of their trailer court.  She took pride in her appearance often being judged as younger than her actual age.  She was also devoted to keeping her age a secret especially from her Kearney coffee club friends.  She was committed to exercising on her stationary bike every day and drove her car up to the age of 90.  It was said by her friends and medical community that she was irrepressible and a hard woman to keep down.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy Farr; parents, Orva and Jospehine Trosper; two brothers, Frederick and Gary Trosper; and two sisters, Geneva Fuller and Roberta Menges.

Survivors include her two children, Roger Farr and wife, Dorothy, of Georgetown, TX and Linda Long and husband, David, of Kearney; two grandsons, Dale Long and wife, Letitia and Edward Long and wife, Kimberly; seven great-grandchildren, Colten, Tyler, Kaylan, Kelsey, Katie, Elliana, and Matthew Long; and three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Wren Trosper of Arapahoe; four sisters, Joyce Boyer of Smith Center, KS, Dixie Swanson of Curtis, Donna Wier of Cambridge, and Ardis Lorimer of McCook.

Memorials may be given in her name.
