Larry D. Kester passed away at the hospital with Kevin by his side on March 2, 2020. He was born in Manhattan, Kansas on May 16, 1934 to Howard and Louise Kester. His father, Howard worked as a veterinarian in the military and his family moved frequently in their early years. After graduating from Cambridge High, Larry went to Kansas State University where he graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1958. Upon graduation, he moved to California with his first wife, Barbara Estergard, where they first lived in San Bernardino for five years. Later, they moved to Orange County where he opened his own veterinarian practice in 1963, specializing in dog and cats. In 1985 he sold his practice and began doing relief work for other veterinarians. After that, he worked for many years at a large spay and neuter clinic specializing in surgery only.
Larry enjoyed running, traveling, and fishing with his family in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He traveled to many places such as Australia, Brazil, the Canary Islands, China, Curacao, England, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Madera, Martinique, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Venezuela, the Virgin Islands, Yugoslavia, Zaire, and Zimbabwe. After he retired, he moved back to Cambridge for some time. In his later years, he moved in with his son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Meredith Kester in North Carolina.
He had three children: a daughter Toni, and sons Kevin and Casey. Later in life he was blessed with three stepchildren, Ron, Jim, and Michelle. All of whom survive him.
