Jimmy Tellus Obituary

Jimmy Lee Tellus of Cambridge, Nebraska, passed away from complications due to Covid19 on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was 73. Jim was born on February 7, 1947 to Wilma (Scheuerman) Tellus and Harold Tellus in Garden City, Kansas. After attending a single-room schoolhouse in Kansas, Jim continued his education in Cambridge, Nebraska, where his family relocated to build the family farm. Jim met his wife Katherine (Stewart) Tellus at Cambridge High School. The high school sweethearts eventually wed on Katherine’s birthday, April 8th, 1967.

After graduating Cambridge High School, Jim attended and graduated from technical college in Milford, Nebraska. He then joined the Army and was stationed overseas in Frankfurt, Germany. A kind-hearted and good-natured man, Jim made life-lasting friendships from his time in the Army. Jim and Kathy also welcomed the birth of their first child while in Frankfurt, daughter Kimberly Tellus. After the Army, Jim relocated his family back to Cambridge, and Jim and Kathy welcomed the birth of their second child, son Jason Tellus.

A hardworking man, Jim first took employment at the Cambridge Telephone Company, but left to work for several years as manager at Besler Industries in Cambridge, before eventually returning to work once again for Cambridge Telephone/Pinpoint, until his retirement. Jim and Kathy opened Medicine Creek Laser Crafts and enjoyed their time serving the community as small business owners in Cambridge. Jim had an inquisitive intellect that sought out knowledge and experience in many different areas.

He loved to travel with his children and his wife. Jim and Kathy had visited forty-nine states, with only Hawaii remaining. Jim enjoyed many hobbies, including his deep love for fishing, hunting, camping by the lake, stained glass, photography and woodworking. Jim loved his dogs both past – Heidi and Amber – and present – Lucy. An involved resident of Cambridge, Jim served on the park board for many years, as well as the Butler Memorial Library Board. A loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather and caring brother, family was paramount to Jim. He kept in touch with everyone and knew everything that was going on up until the very end.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Tellus of Colorado.

Surviving Jim in addition to his wife Katherine, are his daughter Kimberly Tellus and her husband Anthony Rainone of Brooklyn NY; son Jason Tellus and his wife Jamie (Frerichs) Tellus of Yankton, SD; his grandchildren Elaine Tellus and her partner Jacob Sudbeck of Yankton, SD; Benjamin Tellus and Rebecca Tellus of Yankton, SD; his great-grandchildren Owen Sudbeck and Journey Sudbeck of Yankton, SD; his brothers Chuck Tellus and his wife Dixie (Moseley) Tellus of Holbrook, NE, and Steve Tellus and his wife Michelle (Weber)Tellus of Holdrege, NE; sister-in-law Debra Kratochvil and her husband Randy Kratochvil, of Kearney, NE; sister-in-law Joann Carpenter of Denver, CO; and numerous nephews and nieces spread across the country. His passing will leave an irreplaceable gap in their lives, but loving memories will endure with them all.
