Helen V. McChesney of Cambridge passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Cambridge, Nebraska on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
Helen was born October 9, 1924 to Leonard and Edna (Morton) Ridpath in their home in Decatur County, Kansas. She attended country school at Sherman Center and graduated from Decatur Community High School with the class of 1942. She taught two years in country school and then worked as a clerk at J.C. Penney's for two years.
On July 28, 1946 she married Harold McChesney. To this union four children were born: Robert, Richard, Deanna and Melody. They moved to Lebanon, Nebraska in 1956, where Helen worked for the Postal Service for 31 years, 23 as Postmaster.
Helen was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Lebanon, then transferred her membership to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Charter Member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 7719, Lebanon.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; Leonard and Edna Ridpath; husband, Harold McChesney; daughter, Deanna Miller; sisters, Frances (Elvin) McConnell, Leona (Roy) McConnell, Maxine VanPelt, Joan (Dewey) Randolph; brother, Wayne (Agnes) Ridpath and grandson, Aaron McChesney.
Survivors include daughter, Melody (Daryl) Brown of Cambridge; sons, Robert (Karen) McChesney of Mansfield, Texas, Richard (Jimi) McChesney, of Safford, Arizona; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; stepbrother, Ed (Fu Sing) Temple of Chicago, Illinois and brother in law, Lee VanPelt of Montrose, Colorado, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 11 2019, 2:00 PM till 7:00 PM at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary, Cambridge with family present from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 12, 2019, 2:00 PM at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cambridge, Nebraska. Interment will be in the Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Nebraska. Memorial may be left to either the Lebanon Presbyterian Church or the Trinity United Methodist Church of Cambridge. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com
