Greg Saylor

    Greg Saylor, age 67, passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on October 3, 2023. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 25, 1956, to Jack and Ortrude (Anderson) Saylor.

    Greg was raised in Lincoln. He moved to Cambridge, Nebraska in the summer of 1972 to help his dad  build Parkside Manor and then decided to attend Cambridge High School for his junior year.  During this time, he was introduced to his future wife, Vernita Laverack by a mutual friend, Chad Baker.  Greg returned to Lincoln in 1973 to graduate from Lincoln Southeast High School.

    Greg moved back to Cambridge and was united in marriage to Vernita at the First Congregational Church on August 2, 1975.  They were blessed with two children, Joel and Melinda.

    Greg worked as a lineman at the Twin Valley Public Power District for 17 years before continuing with self-employment opportunities.

    Greg is survived by his wife, Vernita; son, Joel (Amina) Saylor of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Melinda (Bennett) Collier of Denver; seven grandchildren: Brodie, Alaina, and Sam Collier; Zoey, Zion, and Anna Saylor; and Armae Saylor; his three brothers, John (Maria) Saylor of Albuquerque, New Mexico, James Saylor of Lincoln, and Larry (Peggy) Czolgos of Lincoln, NE;  two sisters, Tracey (Kenny) West of Lincoln and Kristi (Marlin) Wendland of Holbrook, Nebraska; and brother-in-law Lyle (Shar) Laverack of Cambridge.

    Visitation will be held on Monday afternoon, October 9, 2023 from 3-7PM at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.

    Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Tuesday morning, October 10, 2023 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cambridge with Jim Jones providing words of encouragement.  Cremation will follow services and a private family inurnment will take place in Cambridge's Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

    Memorials are suggested to the McCook Humane Society in Greg's name.  Online condolences may be left at lockenour.com.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge.
