Georgia Gene Maret, age 76, of Bartley passed away June 25, 2020 at the Elwood Care Center. She was born to George and Betty (Fletcher) Arrington in McCook June 8, 1944. Georgia went to school and graduated in Bartley. She continued her education at McCook Community College. Georgia met her future husband, Laverne Maret, on the Hinton farm when she was 13 years of age. The couple eloped to Oberlin, Kansas in 1963 and were later married at the Christian Church in Bartley, Nebraska.
Georgia and Laverne moved to the farm at Stockville, Nebraska where they lived 12 years and raised three sons and two daughters, before they moved to town to run the Hideaway for many years. They lived in McCook a number of years before retiring to Holdrege. Georgia was a vibrant loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was passionate about Elvis, animals, including numerous pets, the Rocky Mountains, country western music and cooking delicious meals for her family.
Georgia is survived by her husband, Laverne Maret of Elwood; children, Tracy Maret of Monroe, WA, Stacy Maret of Farnam, Rodney (Frances) Maret of McCook, Kristy Maret of Lincoln, Nikki Maret of Wilsonville; 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margene and Randy Hayes of Imperial, sister-in-law Marlene Mustion of North Platte; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside services will be held at the Arbor Cemetery in Stockville on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 10:30 AM with Randy Hayes officiating. Visitation will be held in Cambridge at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Due to the Covid 19 virus a memorial service will take place in the future.
