Alta Groshong Obituary

Alta Mae Groshong, age 91 of Cambridge passed away at her home on December 1, 2022.  Mae was born in Long Island, KS on January 2, 1931, to Hugh and Mary (Hall) Rodenbaugh.  She graduated from Long Island High School in 1947.

On September 12, 1948, she was united in marriage to Dean Groshong.  To this union 6 children: Kathy, Cindy Jo, Gary, Tony, Lory, and Terry “Tag”.  The family moved from Edison to Cambridge in 1958.  Mae worked at the old Jack and Jill Grocery and later the Cambridge Supermarket.  Later in 1986, they built the Bunkhouse Motel and Mae ran that until 2001.

Mae was on the Cambridge Museum Board and volunteered with the Tri Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She was a super fan of any Cambridge sporting event. Mae loved to cook Sunday meals for her family. She enjoyed going to auctions and was eager to find a bargain

She was preceded in death by her parents: Hugh and Mary; husband; Dean on January 12, 1986; infant daughter: Mary Ann; siblings: Raymond (Helen) Rodenbaugh; Ella (Oswald) Williams; Edna (Orval) Ferguson; Opal (Kenneth) Molzahn; Don (Verla) Rodenbaugh: Orin Rodenbaugh; 2 sons-in-law: Stanley Wier and Richard Brown.

Mae is survived by her children: Kathy (Dale) Long of Holbrook; Cindy Jo (Doug) Kubik of Atkinson, NE; Gary (Sandi) Groshong of Cambridge; Tony (Cyndi) Groshong of Cambridge; Lory (Les) Thielbar of Chicago, IL; Terry “Tag” (Nicole) of McCook; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren 5 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Crystal Rodenbaugh of Lincoln.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary with Bill Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge. Friends may leave online condolences at lockenourfh.com.  Memorials may be left in Mae’s name to the Cambridge Museum or the Hospital Auxiliary.
