Raymond Durner age 89 of Bartley, passed away on November 8, 2019 at the Senior Living Choices in Curtis, NE. Raymond was born June 3, 1930 in Frontier County to Fred and Evalina (Halley) Durner. He was one of seven children. He grew up on their farm a few miles south of Stockville, NE.
On September 14, 1952 Raymond was united in marriage to Barbara Allen. They spent their married life on the family farm before moving to Indianola, NE in 2011. Four children were born to this union Vicky, Vonnie, Larry and Judy.
Raymond spent several years as a member of the National Guard. He was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Cambridge and was an avid attender until his health prohibited him from attending.
Raymond spent many hours volunteering at the church as a teacher, board of trustees and many other offices. He also joined the Gideons at age 18 and spent 71 years as a member even though he couldn’t be active the last few years.
Raymond was devoted to farming and continued to be involved on the farm until Barbara’s health failed and he spent his time taking care of her. He enjoyed having the grandchildren come and spend time at the farm. Raymond enjoyed fixing things and had plenty of opportunities to use his skills on the farm machinery as well as other vehicles.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, parents-in-law: Jim and Nellie Allen; two brothers; Eldon and Bob: sisters; Lora and an infant sister: Catherine; brothers-in-law: Richard Allen, Harold Moore; sisters-in-law: Hazel Durner; Jean Allen and Mary Ann Allen.
Raymond is survived by his 4 children: Vicky and husband Jim Philips of Greeley, CO; Vonnie and husband Don Moore of McCook, NE; Larry and wife Anngie Durner of Bartley and Judy and husband Dave Pederson of North Platte, NE: 13 grandchildren: 19 great grandchildren: 3 step grandchildren: 4 step great grandchildren: 2 sisters: Margaret Allen of Cambridge; Marge and husband Jim Nixon of Bartley; sisters-ins-law: Marion of McCook; Pauline and husband Gordon Graasch of Broken Bow; Marilyn and husband Darryl Rowan of Hastings; brothers-in-law: Jerry Allen of Simla, CO; Gerald Wolfe of Windsor, CO.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church in Cambridge with Neil Durner officiating, Interment will be in the Bartley Cemetery in Bartley, NE. Visitation will held at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 10:00 Am till 7:00 PM. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM till 7:00PM.
