Claudine Shifflet age 95 passed away at the Cambridge Manor in Cambridge, Nebraska on September 9, 2018. She was born on the family farm in Frontier County, Nebraska near Afton on April 28, 1923 to Claud and Lois (Pyle) Shifflet. Claudine attended country school, later attending the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis. She then went to Kearney State Teachers College for 2 years and received a certificate of Normal Training.
Claudine taught many one room country schools in Frontier County. In the early 1950’s she returned to Kearney State Teachers College and attained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Claudine continued to teach, going on to Danbury and Red Willow schools. She taught Elementary students until her retirement in 1970.
Claudine was a lifetime resident on the family farm in Frontier County. As a lifelong cattlewoman, she enjoyed her Hereford cattle naming each one. She also loved her many kitty families. She was an avid follower of her nephews’ accomplishments, keeping newspaper clippings of all their events. Claudine resided on the farm until health concerns made her move to the Assisted Living Facility in Cambridge in 2002.
Claudine was preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Lois; brother and wife Raymond and Elma Shifflet.
She is survived by two nephews: Burnell and wife Michelle Shifflet; Kim and Kris Shifflet all of Cambridge.
Six great nephews: Tyler and wife Wendy Shifflet of Cambridge; Coleton and Mandy Shifflet of Arvada, Co; Gunner Shifflet of Cambridge; Spencer and fiance’ Katie Shifflet of Holbrook, NE; Chase Shifflet and Tyra Redenbaugh of Cambridge; Lance and Lisa Shifflet of Cambridge along with ten great-great nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Claudine’s wishes, she chose cremation with a private family inurnment in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com.
