Clara Mooney Obituary

Clara Leola (Stevenson) Mooney was born November 2nd, 1925 on a farm in Frontier Country, south of Eustis, Nebraska to Harry and Edith Stevenson. Leola made her departure peacefully at her home of 66 years in Norwalk, California on October 26th, 2023.

In 1926, Harry, Edith, and Leola moved to Cooper Ranch north of Holbrook, Nebraska and that is where it all began. Leola was an only child that was very dedicated to her education before play time, and as some of you have heard over the years Leola was the first child in Holbrook to own a football. Starting at a young age Leola made lifelong friends, graduating with her best friend, Leona in 1943, from Holbrook High School. At the age of 18 Leola began her journey into the education system, becoming a country school teacher.

At the age of 25 Leola had met the love of her life, Nic, and relocated to Compton California, before relocating to their current home in Norwalk California. Nic and Leola were united in marriage on April 6th, 1952 at the Baptist Church in Holbrook, Nebraska. They welcomed their one and only son Rockie.

Leola loved to travel, and was always ready for a road trip, she always looked forward to the summer trips back to Nebraska. Over the years Leola enjoyed spending time at The Arapahoe Senior Center, Arapahoe Nursing home, and Prairie Pines, playing cards and catching up with old friends. Leola loved to crochet, embroidery, quilt, dance and listen to the oldies. She also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking.

Leola was Dedicated to her job NLMUSD for 48 years, before retiring in 2009 at the age of 84. Over the years she was well known for her service to her community of Norwalk, leading hand at the senior centers, cooking for bingo nights, and candle light dinners. Leola took place in several organizations over the years, and was also very involved in PTA.

Leola was preceded in death by both of her parents, and her husband Nic, and her Grandson Lorn Mooney. Survived by her son Rockie, and grandson Nic and Daniel all of Norwalk California.
